FREEDOM PARK VISITOR CENTER

Prescott, WI

Sabongi Consulting Group Inc. was retained by Cedar Corporation to provide concept and design development services for the proposed new two-level visitor center.  The visitor center will serve as a portal to Freedom Park and the panoramic views of the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers, while inviting visitors to explore other sites along the upper Great River Road.   Since its founding in 1928, the Freedom Park site (called Tourist Park until 1982) has been a favorite place for tourists and community residents to gather to see the dramatic river valley scenery.  Enhancements to the site will benefit travelers on the Great River Road, visitors to the Prescott area and local residents.

The first floor will have office space, a multi-purpose room, and an exhibit hall anchored by a magnificent stone fireplace. The 19-foot ceiling and big windows in the exhibit hall will give visitors an unsurpassed view of the spectacular St. Croix river valley.  Doors on the river side of the exhibit hall will open onto a large deck.  The deck stairs will give visitors access to the trail system along the Great River Road.

The lower level of the visitor center will not be open to the public.  It will have space for assembling and storing exhibits.  The lower level will also house the building's mechanical system.

Estimated construction cost is $700,000.  Groundbreaking will take place in June 2005.

GARFIELD CO-OP CREAMERY

Garfield, MN

Our firm assisted the County HRA of Alexandria, Minnesota, in the renovation of the Garfield Co-Op Creamery (built in 1920) into apartments.  The two-bedroom units will serve the needs of the Garfield community for many years.  The Creamery has been a town landmark for nearly a century.  Our task was to convert the building to a new use while retaining the character of the structure.  The renovated building, ready for occupancy in January 2003, has off-street parking and a children's playground.
